Non-Guilty Wrapping Paper! December 24, 2010

Ok, so I am a freak about recycling and the amount of waste during the Holidays.  From the amount of packaging on children’s toys to peanuts found in a shipping box……to throw on MORE waste with wrapping paper nearly throws me into a panic……..

I found some newspaper in the recycling bin and went to work…..

I was really excited how they were looking, but they needed something…….I found an old red tablecloth…..BOWS!  (Clementine colored little pictures for the tags:)

I am super psyched on how they turned out!  And NO unnecessary EXTRA garbage!  YEA!

Try and conserve everyday!
Happy Holidays!!

Want to do something special for your lovie without breaking the bank or harming the earth?  Here are some really fabulous ideas from!!

PAPER (hand-made, recycled) and tied up with ribbon and some heart shape fabric or recycled board.

Step 1:   Cut junk mail into small shreds, soak it in warm water for about 2 hours, and blend it in a blender.

Step 2:   Add small quantities of flowers, grass, and leaves for fun, color, and texture.

Step3:   Spread it out on a flat, fine-holed, wire-mesh screen—use a rolling pin to flatten it.

Step 4:   Smear a tablespoon of cornstarch over the paper to increase its strength.

Step 5:   When it dries, you can use this paper as stationary, to decorate used boxes, or even to make Valentine Cards. (For an even prettier look, glue dried flowers on top of the paper).

Now that I think about it, these would make fabulous invitations…..hmmm

Who doesn’t love a soak in the tub?  Well, Robbie, he says they are for girls.

BATH OILS For centuries we have been using oils in the bath to soften and scent the skin. 1 bottle of organic olive oil + 1 tablespoon castille soap + fragrant essential oil of choice. Combine all together, except essential oil. Place into bottle or jars and add oil drop by drop. Shake to combine. Nice accompanied by a drawstring bag filled with dried herbs. The bag can be hung around the tap while the bath is filling or just thrown into the bath.

BATH SOAK in the centre of a hemmed calico square place 1 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup almond meal and 1/2 cup cornmeal. Tie up into a ball with a length of lace. The mixture will diffuse into the bath water.

And for those sweet tooths!!   DIY Organic Chocolates!!

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!!

Recycled Crafts! February 5, 2010

Ok, so I have been asked what ways things around the house can be recycled… is an awesome blog,”P@perSeed”, I have found that really has some fabulous (and simple) ideas!!

Recycled Envelopes
Make unique envelopes by recycling calendars, magazines, maps, sheet music or any other unused papers that you might have lying around. There are several places where you can download templates, including herehere or here, or you can simply find an envelope you like, unfold it and trace.

Recycled Sweater Crafts
I can’t resist these projects made from old sweaters. Leave it to Martha Stewart (and her staff and guests) to come up with such beautiful handmade items. Here are instructions on her website to make recycled sweater mittens (including video!),pouchespillow coverssoft toys and stuffed animalschristmas stockings and afelted knitting basket.
